Early Motion Pictures

Theodore Roosevelt became president during the very early development of motion pictures. There is at least one good shot of him on film that is available online at the Library of Congress Motion Picture site. At the site search on the name Roosevelt and choose the film President Roosevelt at the Canton station. It was taken on September 18, 1901 soon after Roosevelt became President of the United States. The film shows him in Canton, Ohio for the funeral of President McKinley.

Technical Notes:
To see this film you will need a player for the AVI format. The Library of Congress site links to a download site for the appropriate player. You will also need lots of time and space. The file is very large - over 18 megs. With a 28.8 modem it took me an hour to download around 11 megabytes.
